Anniversary wishes
A card from a child on their parents’ anniversary is an odd and lovely thing: you are the only person who has watched the whole marriage from the inside. Say something only you could.

Continue writing opens that message in the card with the words already in it, so all that is left is to change a word and send it. The last message is the longest of the six, and it is the only one you have to copy across yourself.
Happy anniversary to you both. You made it look easy and I'm old enough now to know it wasn't. Thank you for keeping the house steady through years I only understood much later. Everything I think a marriage should be, I learned at home. ❤️
Continue writing with message 1Happy anniversary. Congratulations on another year, and on all the arguments you had quietly enough that we never heard them. Thank you for that. I hope you do something for yourselves today instead of cooking for everybody else.
Continue writing with message 2Happy anniversary to the two of you. I don't think either of you gets told enough that you did a good job, not just with us but with each other. Thank you for the example. I'm still learning from it, more than I let on.
Continue writing with message 3Happy anniversary. Another year of Papa being confidently wrong about directions and Mummy letting it go for the sake of peace. Please celebrate properly this time. Go out, order too much, and let somebody else do the dishes.
Continue writing with message 4Happy anniversary. I've been thinking about the years when money was tight and neither of you mentioned it in front of us, though I can work out now what that must have cost. Thank you. I hope today is an easy and happy one.
Continue writing with message 5Happy anniversary to you both. You made it look easy and I'm old enough now to know how much it wasn't. Thank you for keeping the house steady through years I only understood much later, and for the arguments you had quietly enough that we never heard them. Everything I think a marriage should be, I learned at home.
Use your unfair advantage: you saw the difficult years. Nobody else sending them a message did. One line acknowledging that they held it together through a specific stretch — the transfer, the loans, the year of the illness — is worth more to them than any blessing.
Let one joke in. Indian parents deflect sincerity fast, and a card that is entirely earnest will be read once and put in a drawer with a comment about you being too emotional. One affectionate joke about which of them is the difficult one buys the earnest sentence its room.
Print-quality sentiment is not required. Their own child, writing it down, is the whole gift.
