Sorry messages

Sorry messages for your girlfriend

An apology sent as a text gets read in the middle of an argument. Written down, it arrives on its own, and she can read it twice without you watching her face. These six are apologies, not negotiations.

Six messages you could actually send

Continue writing opens that message in the card with the words already in it, so all that is left is to change a word and send it. The last message is the longest of the six, and it is the only one you have to copy across yourself.

  1. I'm sorry. I was wrong, and I'm not going to explain it away this time. I've been thinking about how all of it must have felt from your side and it isn't comfortable. You matter far more to me than being right did. Let me make it up to you. ❤️

  2. I've been sitting with what I said and it was unfair, and I think I knew that before I said it. You didn't deserve any of it. I'm sorry. Take whatever time you need with this. I'll be here when you're ready, and I won't rush you.

  3. You were right and I got defensive instead of listening, which is a habit of mine I'm not proud of. I'm sorry. I'd rather lose the argument and keep this than the other way round. Tell me when we can talk about it properly.

  4. I hate that I made you feel small. That's the bit I keep coming back to, not the question of who was right. I'm sorry. I don't always say or do the sensible thing, but I never want you doubting how much you matter to me.

  5. I went quiet instead of saying sorry, which I do, and then hoped a day would fix it, which it never does. So: I was wrong. I'm sorry. I'd like to come and say this to your face if you'll let me, and bring food, obviously.

  6. If I could take one thing back from this week it would be the way I spoke to you. I can't, so all I can honestly offer is this: I know I hurt you, I'm not going to explain it away, and you matter far more to me than being right about any of it ever could. I'm sorry, love. I hope you'll let me make it up to you.

Writing your own

Cut every but. The word turns an apology into a defence, and she will hear the second half of that sentence and nothing else. Sorry I shouted, but you were also is not an apology; sorry I shouted is. If there is a genuine grievance on your side, it is a separate conversation on a separate day.

Name the thing, not the mood. I'm sorry you got upset apologises for her reaction. I'm sorry I cancelled at the last minute again apologises for what you did. Specificity is what proves you understood; a vague apology reads as a peace offering from someone who still does not know what went wrong.

Send the apology on its own, sealed, with nothing else in the message to distract from it.
