Anniversary wishes
An anniversary card to a husband is easy to get wrong in one direction: it becomes a public post rather than a private letter. These six are written for him to read alone.

Continue writing opens that message in the card with the words already in it, so all that is left is to change a word and send it. The last message is the longest of the six, and it is the only one you have to copy across yourself.
Happy anniversary. Another year, and I'd still choose exactly this, exactly you, without needing to think it over. Thank you for the last year in particular. It wasn't the easy one and you carried a lot of it quietly. ❤️
Continue writing with message 1Happy anniversary. We've got better at the difficult parts, which counts for more than the good photographs do. Thank you for never once making me feel like I was handling something alone. Same day, many years, and still glad.
Continue writing with message 2Happy anniversary. What I'm most grateful for isn't the big moments, it's that an ordinary evening with you is somewhere I actually want to be. That's harder to build than anything else. Thank you for building it with me.
Continue writing with message 3Happy anniversary to the one person who still cannot remember this date without a reminder from three separate apps. It's fine. You remember everything else about me, which is the part I'd much rather have anyway.
Continue writing with message 4Happy anniversary. Somewhere in this house there's a photo from that day where we both look faintly terrified, and I like it more than any of the good ones. We knew nothing then. Thank you for learning the whole thing alongside me.
Continue writing with message 5Happy anniversary. Another year, and I'd still choose exactly this without needing to think it over. Thank you for the last one in particular, which wasn't the easy one, and which you carried far more of than you ever mentioned. We've got better at the difficult parts, and that's the thing worth celebrating today.
Reference the specific year you have just finished, not the wedding. Wedding-day nostalgia is what the photo on the family group is for. Naming what this particular year contained — the move, the illness, the year you barely saw each other — is what makes the card about the marriage instead of the ceremony.
Pick a number and mean it. Happy 12th is stronger than happy anniversary, because it quietly says you both counted. If it is a round one, resist the urge to be grand about it; the plainest sentence in a milestone card is the one that gets kept.
Send it before the family group chat gets to it, and let him open it in private.
